ROACH FLIES TO GENSAN WITH TWO PACQUIAO SPARRING PARTNERS By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Oct 2014 If all goes according to plan, Hall of Fame Trainer Freddie Roach will be leaving Los Angeles for the Philippines this week, to train his most decorated pupil ? Manny Pacquiao. Roach is expected to fly Monday for General Santos City - site of Pacquiao?s training camp for his November 23rd (22nd in the USA) championship fight with Chris Algieri in Macao, China. This was relayed to this Philboxing.com writer by one of Roach?s assistant, Marvin Somodio who was in New Jersey last week training Glen Tapia, one of the fighters from their famed Wild Card Gym. Tapia, who was a former sparring mate of Pacquiao, won via TKO in the 4th round against Donatas Bondorovas in a Top Rank Boxing card held last Saturday at the Bally?s Events Center in Atlantic City. Somodio said that Roach is most likely to be accompanied by two rangy and tall boxers in Viktor Postol and Stan Martyniouk. Both will serve as Pacquiao?s newest sparring partners for this current camp against the tall and lengthy Algieri who is also the current World Boxing Organization?s 140 pound champion. Postol an undefeated junior welterweight from Ukraine is 5?11? while Martyniouk a lightweight from Sacramento, California is listed at 5?10?. ?Matatangkad sila, lalo na si Viktor, 5?11? ata yung si Viktor Postol. Atsaka pareho silang boxer, lalo si Viktor Postol, magaling mag-jab yun.? said Somodio. (They are both tall, especially Viktor, I think Viktor Postol is 5?11??. And both of them are ?boxers?, especially Viktor Postol who has a very good jab.) Postol, 30, (26-0, 11 KOs) is currently rated Number 1 by the World Boxing Council at junior welterweight (140 pounds) and is next in line to challenge WBC junior welterweight champion, Danny Garcia. Martyniouk, 29, who was born in the former Soviet Union (Estonia), currently trains under 2011 Trainer of The Year, Virgil Hunter in Oakland, California and has a record of 13 wins (2 KOs) and 2 defeats. Roach and the two fighters will go directly to General Santos City to start the hardest part of Pacquiao?s training which is sparring. Postol and Martyniouk will be readily available to trade punches against the WBO welterweight champ. They will be joining Conditioning Coach, Justin Fortune who has been in the Philippines since last week, Assistant Coaches Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.
