ANOTHER BOXING TRAGEDY IN THAILAND
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 03 Apr 2007
There’s been another tragic death of a fighter on the same weekend that Filipino flyweight Lito Sisnorio passed away after undergoing brain surgery following a fourth round KO loss in a terrible mismatch against former world champion Chatchai Sasakul.
Thai boxer Deeden Kengkarun suffered convulsions last Friday and died the same night.
Well-known boxing writer Scott Mallon reported that Kengkarun had apparently recently fought in the Philippines but there was no record of the fight. This was also confirmed by Edward Thangarajah of the Bangkok Post who said the 28 year old Kengkarun, the former Pacific Asian Boxing Association light flyweight champion who recently fought in the Philippines was cremated on Friday.
Kengkarun had previously fought current world-rated super flyweight Z “The Dream” Gorres on July 30, 2005 and lost a lopsided ten round decision after being dropped by Gorres in the second round.
WBO Asia Pacific executive Leon Panoncillo who arranged the Gorres-Kengkarun fight was shocked to learn of gis death. The THai fighter who was featured on Viva Sports top rated weekly boxing shown "The Main Event" was a very pleasant and simple individual who enjoyed his stay in Manila. He left behind a wife and a three-year old daughter.
