Marco Demecillo KO?d by David Sanchez in Sonora, Mexico

PhilBoxing.com

Another Filipino boxer endured another crushing knockout defeat in Mexico Saturday night when Marco Demecillo (19-2-1, 14 KOs) of Iligan City was stopped in the 4th round of his bout against David ?Tornado? Sanchez (24-2-2, 19 KOs) of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Demecillo, 23, a late replacement out of the RWS Gym in Cebu, stalked Sanchez from the start of the fight, with jabs and looping left hooks. Sanchez, fighting in his hometown, eluded the Filipino?s advances by boxing beautifully and timing his shots that found its mark on Demecillo?s head and torso.

Sanchez and Demecillo exchanged leather in the 2nd, hitting each other with hard body shots in that round. In the 3rd, the Mexican connected with his combinations as Demecillo moves in, then circles around him to avoid the Filipino?s counters and swinging left hooks.

Demecillo, a hard hitting and former national super flyweight belt holder, started aggressively in the fourth and pursued his opponent with bad intentions after the break. He was able to land some of his right hands but Sanchez was able to take control of the middle part of the round when he was able to pin Demecillo to the ropes.

Sanchez connected plenty in the last minute of the 4th and his combinations to the head stunned and dropped Demecillo. The Filipino attempted to get up from the knockdown but staggered again to the canvas prompting the referee to stop the fight.

The time was 2:56 of the 4th round.

Sanchez improved his record, grabbed the vacant WBA International flyweight belt with his impressive victory and becomes a viable contender for any of the 115 pound crown holders.

Meantime, it is back to the drawing board for Demecillo and his team, who was once touted as one of the country?s top prospects and potential title challengers.
