DONAIRE PREDICTS SOMEONE IS GOING DOWN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 Nov 2013 2012 ?Fighter of the Year? and four division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire (31-2, 20 KO?s) has predicted that ?someone is going down? when he clashes in an eagerly awaited grudge rematch with Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO?s) in Corpus Christi, Texas on Sunday morning, Manila Time. In the final press conference for Top Rank?s loaded HBO fight card with the Donaire fight to be telecast at 11:00 a.m. right after the Miss Universe beauty pageant from Moscow over ABS-CBN Channel 2, while all three title fights as well as Donaire-Drachinyan will be telecast on Studio 23, Donaire said ?I?ll just leave my talking inside that ring. But, one thing is for sure. With this grudge, and the tenacity of both of us, with our exciting style, someone is going down!? For his part, Darchinyan, the hard-hitting southpaw said ?Everyone knows I?ve been waiting for this fight for a long time. It?s been canceled a couple of times. I didn?t think it was gonna happen again, but thank you to God, Top Rank and HBO for putting this fight together. I?m very confident and motivated for this fight. I will show how excited I can be more than ever. You will see how good I am and how strong I am. And sharp.? Also featured on the blockbuster card will be three world title fights. Puerto Rico?s only world champion, WBO junior lightweight king Roman ?Rocky? Martinez (27-1-2, 16 KOs) will defend his title against classy undefeated former WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KOs), younger brother of 2012 ?Trainer of the Year? Robert Garcia who also trains Donaire along with Nonito?s father, Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr, while undefeated former U.S. Olympians Vanes ?The Nightmare? Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KOs) and Demetrius ?Boo Boo? Andrade (19-0, 13 KOs) will battle for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title and WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (22-0, 18 KOs) makes his first defense against Alberto Garza (25-5-1, 20 KOs). Garcia who relinquished his featherweight title to move up to junior lightweight and helped pave the way for his close friend Donaire to hopefully face Orlando Salido for the title should he beat Drachinyan said ?I know it?s a tough fight It?s not an easy fight for me. I?m not just fighting any guy at the 130lb limit, I fighting a world champion in Rocky Martinez. Roman has been there before. He?s a bigger guy than the featherweights I was facing, so I know it?s a tough fight for me although I believe I have all the skills needed to win. I believe was can put on good fireworks for everyone to enjoy and hopefully have one of those fights that people can remember for years and years to come.? In response Martinez remarked ?For this fight I had a tremendous camp, a very hard camp because I know I?m going to have a real hard fight with Mikey Garcia. I worked real hard. I know I?m the only champion from Puerto Rico right now, but be sure of one thing. I?m going in as a champion and I?m coming out as a champion on that night.?
