PAYPA OUTGUNS REDONDO IN BALAMBAN By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 26 Sep 2013 BALAMBAN, CEBU ? Jimmy Paypa of the ALA Gym secured an impressive ten round unanimous decision win over the tough but outclassed Jason Redondo in the ten round main event of ?Bakbakan sa Balamban II?. The two southpaws traded heavy hooks in the early rounds. Then, in a bizarre sequence in the fourth round, Redondo dropped his guard and started to complain to Referee Teddy Alivio about being hit by low blows. Paypa smacked Redondo?s exposed jaw and sent him down. Redondo failure to remember the basic rule ? protect yourself at all times ? resulted in a knockdown scored against him. The action resumed and they continued to exchange hard shots but Paypa?s punches got stronger past the halfway mark. Repeated low blows resulted in a point deduction from Paypa in the sixth. Paypa changed tactics and employed a stick and move routine that befuddled Redondo. Paypa?s punch output increased as the rounds progressed and opened a cut on Redondo?s left eyelid in the eighth round. Redondo proved to be an easy target and was bleeding and reeling in the endgame. Paypa won handily by scores of 99-98, 99-89 and 98-90. Paypa is now 14W-2L, 4 KO?s while Redondo drops to his second career loss at 7-2-1, 6 KO?s. The crowd inside the Balamban Sports and Cultural Complex were roaring with laughter at Jun Intor?s comical ring act against Nelson Sandal but their pleasure was short lived. An accidental clash of heads resulted in an ugly gash on Intor?s right eyelid and ring physician Dr. Jose Unabia recommended the stoppage at the 59 second mark of the second round. The bout was declared a technical draw. The fans were also treated to an exhibition sparring session between former PABA and OPBF champion Roli Gasca and rising prospect Mark ?Machete? Bernaldez. In an intense six rounder, Yosuke Miyagawa beat Crispin Parba by majority decision. The scorecards read - Judge Arnie Najera ? 56-56 and Judge Ben Necesario and scoring referee Teddy Alivio had it 57-55 and 57-56 respectively for the Japanese. Parba was deducted a point in round 4 for an accidental headbutt and Miyagawa was also deducted a point in the 6th for excessive holding. Jeo Santisima won by unanimous decision against Takaoki Noma of Japan in an entertaining brawl. The scores ? 39-37, 40-37 and 40-36. Kim Galon knocked down Marlou Talili in the sixth and final round and won by unanimous decision. The scorecards read 58-56, 59-56 and 58-55. In the opening bout of the night, Raul Yu beat Ritchnell Rosales by TKO in the 2nd round. Yu scored a knockdown in the opening round with a left hook. In the second, Rosales was pinned in a neutral corner and Yu unloaded the kitchen sink prompting Referee Ben Necesario to stop the fight. Time 1:25. The fights were held Wednesday night and promoted by ALA Promotions. The bouts were supervised by GAB-OIC Celso Miranda, Rolando Mendoza and Glen Agena.
