Rolly Lunas to face Chris Avalos on November 16 By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Wed, 25 Sep 2013 Lunas. Ranked bantamweight Rolly Lunas will have the change to avenge the loss of his countryman, Drian Francisco, when he meets Francisco?s conqueror last July in current WBO-NABO super bantamweight titlist, Chris Avalos. The two will face off on a Top Rank Boxing promoted card on November 16th in Laughlin, Nevada according to Lunas? trainer and manager, Vince Parra. The bout will be contested at the super bantamweight division and Avalos? regional title which he won by beating Francisco in Las Vegas this summer will not be on the line for this bout. The fight between the two has been discussed by Top Rank and both camps in recent weeks with the original intention of putting it on the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Timothy Bradley card or as part of fight week festivities in October in Las Vegas but it has now been moved to the aforementioned date and location. Another cause for the delay is that Avalos? name has been mentioned as a possible opponent for unified super bantamweight champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux but the fight was apparently turned down by network executives at HBO which officially freed Avalos. Lunas, originally from Tabaco City, Albay in the Philippines, is now based in San Diego, California where he moved after a lengthy stay in Japan. His first fight in North America was an 8 round Unanimous Decision victory over German Meraz in Tijuana, Mexico. ?Sa ngayon, masaya ako kasi at least makakalaban na ako kaya pinangako ko sa sarili na mag-eensayo ako ng mabuti. Paghahandaan ko po talaga ito.? Lunas told his writer when asked about the fight. (For now, I am happy because I can now fight again and I promised myself that I will train hard. I will prepare myself well for this fight.) The 29 year old Filipino holds a record of 32 wins (19 KOs) with 8 defeats (2 KOs) and a single draw while the younger Avalos, 23, of Lancaster, California has 22 wins (16 KOs) and 2 losses.
