XCON boxers ready for ?ALA-Cobra Tunay Na Lakas? event

PhilBoxing.com

XCON Tiger City Gym will be fielding four of its top boxers for ALA Promotions? event dubbed as ?Tunay Na Lakas Boxing? Saturday night at the City Hall Gymnasium of Mandaluyong City.

XCON is one of the most feared boxing stables in Metro Manila as it produced high-caliber fighters such as Sonny Gonzales and Jun Talape.

Since the renowned ring tour of the Cebu-based company is making its first stop in Luzon, head coach Ramie Gonzaga stressed that his wards are prepared to capitalize the opportunity.

?It?s a good chance for them to show everybody of what they can do inside the ring. This is the right moment to put everybody on notice,? he said in Filipino.

Among the four fighters who will represent XCON Gym on fight night is Rene Bestudio, headlining the boxing card as he meets Jonel Alibio in a ten-round tussle.

Bestudio attempts to put his career back on the map after suffering a tough majority decision loss to unbeaten Mark Acub last June 22 in Cebu.

Prior to his loss, the 29-year-old pugilist from Southern Leyte was riding high on a three-fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Roselito Campana for the PBF super featherweight title.

According to Gonzaga, Bestudio wants to convincingly rout Alibio, who once shared the ring with former world champions Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym and Akifumi Shimoda.

?As much as possible, Rene wants to win convincingly or if ever by knockout because he knows the reputation of his opponent,? he mentioned.

In the night?s co-main event, XCON?s frontrunner Jimmy Aducal will lock horns with Argie Toquero in an eight-round scuffle at super bantamweight.

Aducal, a heavy-hitter with five knockouts to his credit, is looking to bounce back after yielding to former OPBF champion Roli Gasca via unanimous decision three months ago.

?I can see it in his eyes that he wants to win again. Jimmy never wants to lose,? Gonzaga stated

The 22-year-old slugger also held the PBF super flyweight title in February of this year when he knocked out Bryan Vicera in the fifth round.

However, his reign as the new titleholder was short lived when he decided to move up in weight to face Gasca.

The other two fighters from XCON Gym who are scheduled to compete on Saturday are Jesame Dela Zerna and Robin Dingcong.
Dela Zerna takes on knockout artist Richard Claveras, while Dingcong trades leather with Joel Lumangcag.

The 5-foot-4 Dela Zerna has racked up three wins and a draw in his last four outings since losing to Conrado Tanamor in November 2010.

Before stepping in as a professional fighter, he is a gold medal winner in the 2003 National Open and has dominated the NCR Palaro from 2001 to 2007.

In his bout versus Claveras, Dela Zerna will be contending for the first time in an eight-round contest.

?For a long time, this kid wants to compete in an eight-rounder. He gave his assurance that he will walk out with the victory. I saw it in his training that?s why I gave him my trust,? the trainer said about Dela Zerna

On the other hand, Dingcong is making his professional debut against another first-timer in Lumangcag.

The 20-year-old puncher from Negros Occidental started boxing at the age of 13 and had participated twice in Palarong Pambansa.
?Robin is very athletic for a boxer, who is making his professional debut. He has quality punches and movement. I must admit that we have high expectations in his fight,? Gonzaga asserted.

Although the team has been branded as favorites in their respective matches, Gonzaga guaranteed that there is no room for error and added that his boxers will sport their best foot inside the squared-circle.

?We shouldn?t be overconfident because their opponents are dangerous. But we are prepared and ready. And of course, we are geared up to put a great fight. It all boils down on Saturday,? he ended.
