NBA -- Nuggets eyeing Robinson

PhilBoxing.com

CHICAGO -- The Denver Nuggets have expressed keen interest in signing free-agent Nate Robinson, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

The 29-year old Robinson, a journeyman who has toiled for five different teams in his eight NBA seasons, last played for the Chicago Bulls where he over-performed his one-year,$854,389 contract.

Robinson was an offensive spark in a team that was wanting after superstar point guard Derrick Rose missed the entire season rehabilitating a torn ACL. Nate was rewarded with huge playoff minutes by defensive minded coach Tom Thibodeau during the Bulls' ill-fated postseason run.

Following a solid year, it's a realistic expectation for Robinson to be tendered a multi-year deal worth somewhere in the province of $10 million. But with Rose returning for the upcoming NBA season, it's unlikely that Robinson will be back in Chicago.

Although the Nuggets are loaded at the point guard spot with Ty Lawson and Andre Miller sharing duties, Robinson could come off the bench and provide some extra scoring punch. With the departure of Andre Iguodala to the Warriors and Corey Brewer to the Timberwolves, the Nuggets will need all the scoring help they can get.

Playing all 82 games last season, Robinson averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 assists per game with Chicago. His shooting was surprisingly efficient, knocking down 40.5 percent of his three-pointers while taking more than four per game.(JAM)
