FRANCISCO-AVALOS PUNCH STATS SHOW IT WAS A FAIRLY CLOSE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Jul 2013 When Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? praised Drian Francisco for his courage in a losing bid for the North American Boxing Organization super bantamweight title and pointed out that Drian faded in the championship rounds, is borne out by the unofficial CompuBox Punch Stat Report. Two judges scored the fight for Avalos 96-94 while one judge had him ahead 97-93. In terms of percentage of punches throw and landed Francisco had a decided advantage although he threw far fewer punches than Avalos. In rounds 7 to 10, not only did Avalos throw more punches he landed more to up his percentages. Again, in terms of jabs landed and thrown Francisco had a decided advantage percentage wise because Avalos threw many more jabs which brought down his percentages in consideration of those that connected. Power punches thrown and landed showed what made the difference in the fight as after the first two rounds which favored Francisco, 41 % to 17% in round one and 42% to 40% in round two, Avalos took charge throwing more punches and connecting with more, especially in the last three rounds when Drian faded badly. In round 8 it was 31% to 23%, round 9, 31% to 19% and round 10, 33% to 21% all for Avalos. Overall, Avalos threw 1043 punches to Francisco?s 509 while in jabs the American had 437 to the 132 of the Filipino and in power shots again Avalos had a commanding lead in punches thrown, 606 to 377. Francisco?s trainer and former heavyweight contender Justin Fortune told the Manila Standard he couldn?t explain the sudden tiring of Francisco and told us he would have him checked out by a specialist on Tuesday, Manila Time. Fortune said he suspected that Francisco had an asthma attack after the early rounds and said a fighter doesn?t necessarily have to be asthmatic to have an attack during a fight.
