NBA Finals -- Spurs gun for commanding 2-0 lead By Rodene Ivan B. Cortes PhilBoxing.com Mon, 10 Jun 2013 MIAMI -- Whatever happens in tomorrow's Game 2 of these NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs will go home to Texas with homecourt advantage. But the Spurs aren't satisfied just yet, they want a double steal at the American Airlines Arena and put a stranglehold of this best-of-7 series. And if you are a Spurs fans, you should be giddy at your team's chances. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is 20-3 all-time in best-of-7 series when his team wins Game 1, reports The Miami Herald. Pop's 87 percent clip is trailing only Phil Jackson and Red Auerbauch among coaches with 15 NBA seasons under their belt. After winning a thrilling Game 1, 92-88, the Spurs look to put the Miami Heat on their heels. Games 3, 4 and 5 will be in San Antonio next week and if the Heat there with a 2-0 deficit, their title defense aspirations will be in serious jeopardy. But beating Miami twice won't be easy. The Heat haven't lost back-to-back games since January 10 and they have the game's ultimate equalizer -- four-time MVP LeBron James. After falling short despite a triple-double in Game 1, the King is expected to have a monster Game 2. "He knows more than all of you put together. He's a great player and his decisions are what they are," Popovich told reporters yesterday, defending James' decision to be more of a facilitator than a scorer. LeBron took only 16 of his 78 field goals in Game 1. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh combined for 26 shots. There is no guarantee if the Spurs can contain James two meetings in a row, but if they rebound the basketball, shoot well from the field and limit their turnovers, Game 2 could spell another victory.(RIC) Photos: PhilBoxing.com com writer Rodene Ivan Cortes joins the interview session with Tracy McGrady (below) while the rest of the Spurs practice for Sunday night's Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
