DRIAN FRANCISCO CLEARS THE AIR ABOUT HIS PHILIPPINE CONTRACTS

PhilBoxing.com

Super bantamweight Drian Francisco (24-1-1, 19KO) who is presently in Los Angeles training under the watchful eyes of Justin Fortune in West Hollywood, California for his July 14th fight against Chris Avalos (21-2-0,16KO) at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas, called this writer after his training Tuesday afternoon wishing to clear the air about his so-called ?contracts? in the Philippines with Elmer Anuran.

The ?contracts? appear to be becoming an issue now that he has changed his base from Batangas to West Hollywood.

?I don?t want to rock the boat. I just want to clear the air now that Mr. Ronnie Nathanielsz mentioned it in one of his articles published on PhilBoxing,? he said. ?People should hear my side," he added.

Apparently according to Francisco, he has a ?managerial contract? with Anuran properly signed with a copy filed at the GAB Offices in Manila.

According to Francisco:

?That Managerial Contract was for May 2009 to May 2013; therefore, essentially the contract is done at the end of this month. Starting June 1st, I no longer have a managerial contract with them.?

"The 'live contract' they were referring to and mentioned in the article of Nathanielsz is probably the same contract that will expire at the end of this month.

Francisco also stated that before they boarded the plane last September 2012 at the NAIA enroute to LAX and then Mexico to fight Jose Carlos Vargas, he was made to sign a contract they presented to him as a ?Promoter?s Contract.?

Francisco said:

?They made me sign it in addition to the Managerial Contract I had with them perhaps to have a better hold on me. (Pinapirma ako marahil, gusto nila akong hawakan nag maigi)

?I am not sure if the Promoters Contract I signed before we boarded the plane is valid or not. What I am sure of is that contract was not signed before a lawyer witness or the GAB and is not on file at the GAB as per the norm in these types of contracts. In addition, I was never shown the details of the contract much less given a copy.

?I also feel it was signed under duress but I never mention it to anyone at that time because we were all on the same flight to Mexico and I was dependent on them to assure that the fight with Vargas gets off as scheduled. Besides, I needed to focus on the fight."

It should be noted that Francisco won that fight against Vargas via a 1st round KO.

More from Francisco:

?I feel that they no longer have a hold on me with regards to my coming fight in July at Las Vegas under the Top Rank banner but they have all the rights to make noise.

?First, they no longer manage my career effective the end of the month... Then they deserve nothing as a promoter if the contract is valid since they have not promoted the fight scheduled in July.

?I am confident that Mr. Arum and his lawyers will fix this because if I do well they want me to fight under their banner for a title.

"With Top Rank supporting me, I am confident the fight in July will go as scheduled because we signed the contracts already and we have a schedule on ESPN.

?I also like to thank them because I would not be here without their help in the past. I hope they will simply feel happy for me because Top Rank has given me an opportunity to perhaps become a world champion and a pride for the Philippines.?
