NBA - Pacers steal Game 2, tie East Finals series

CHICAGO -- George Hill sank four free throws in the final 48.9 seconds of play and the Indiana Pacers held off the Miami Heat, 97-93, to win Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals Friday night at the American Airlines Arena.

Indiana's thrilling victory tied this best-of-7 series at 1-1, giving home court advantage to the Pacers, who will host Games 3 and 4 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse this coming Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

After Game 1's heartbreaking overtime loss, the Pacers came out strong in Game 2 and took a 28-22 advantage after one of quarter of play. They would push the lead to 13 late in the second quarter, but the Heat went on a 7-0 run to close the gap at 53-47 by halftime.

The Pacers withstood another Heat barrage in the third and when Chris Bosh drilled a 3-point that gave Miami an 88-84 lead with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter, it seemed like the defending champions had swayed the momentum in their favor for good.

But the stubborn Pacers wouldn't go away and unleashed a 7-3 spurt that knotted the count at 91-91 and set the stage for the dramatic finish.

"Very, very proud of our resolve to overcome their runs in the first two games. That was the major part of the emphasis in the film session. The guts to respond time and again. We're going to have to withstand that the whole series," Pacers head coach Frank Vogel told the Indianapolis Star.

Roy Hibbert, Indy's 7-foot-2 center, led the Pacers with 29 points and 10 rebounds while All-Star Paul George finished with 22 points and six assists. Hill rebounded from a so-so Game 1 with 18 points in Game 2. His steady leadership led Indiana with 18 assists.

LeBron James was terrific -- 36 points, eight rebounds and three assists -- but he committed two crucial turnovers that paved the way for Hill's four free throws in the endgame. Chris Bosh chipped in 17 points and Dwyane Wade added 14 for Miami, which made only 34 of 73 field goals for a 46.6 percent clip. (JZ)
