DARCHINYAN WIN WILL HURT DONAIRE?S CHANCES OF TITLE SHOT AT TERRAZAS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 10 May 2013 ![]() Darchinyan. Should former world champion Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KOs) win over Mexican slugger Javier Gallo (18-6-1, 10 KOs) in a scheduled ten round bout at the Uni Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas, on Saturday, then former WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire?s chances of a title shot against newly crowned WBC champion Victor ?Vikingo? Terrazas may suffer. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum under whose promotional aegis Darchiyan will make his first appearance over the weekend, earlier told the Manila Standard that Donaire could get a title shot at Terrazas who won the vacant title relinquished by Abner Mares in a split decision over former super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares. Donaire?s manager Cameron Dunkin told us even before Terrazas faced Mijares he was looking to get Donaire a shot at the winner. But Darchinyan, a native of Armenia who is an Australian citizen and has held seven world titles, IBF 112, 115, IBO 112 115, WBC 115, WBA 115 and IBO 118 claims he has the right as No. 1 contender to face Terrazas should he beat Gallo as expected. Chances are that a Darchinyan win would earn him a shot at Terrazas on the undercard of the comeback fight of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr who is currently training in Mexico with Manny Pacquiao?s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza. Donaire himself told the Standard he would like to move up to featherweight but if he gets a shot at Terrazas he will remain at 122 pounds although he will have to work on a nutrition program to make the weight.
