TRAINER ROBERT GARCIA SAYS PACQUIAO-RIOS WILL BE MORE EXCITING THAN MAYWEATHER’S FIGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

2012 “Trainer of the Year” Robert Garcia believes that the clash between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios at the Cotai Arena in the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macao on November 24 will be more exciting that the fights of undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Garcia told the Manila Standard that while Mayweather is probably the best fighter in the world and “is very smart and very technical, his fights are not as exciting as the fights of Pacquiao or Rios and the people will enjoy their fight” in Macau.

Mayweather scored a lopsided, 117-111 unanimous decision over Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Saturday where less than 16,000 watched the fight at the venue and many left even before the fight ended while others booed the lack of action that fight fans love to see.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum however, noted that some fight fans like to see “artistic fighters” like Mayweather and Guillermo Rigondeaux, the former Cuban two-time Olympic gold medalist who won the WBO/Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond belts with a stunning win over 2012 “Fighter of the Year” Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire last April 13, but said there are others who want to see "a knock-down, drag-out action fight, and that’s what we’re going to give them with Pacquiao and Rios.”

Garcia told us the Pacquiao-Rios showdown “is going to be a very exciting fight and Manny has always been in tremendous fights, very exciting fights and so has Brandon. This is going to be a very exciting fight, a very explosive fight both ways . Both fighters have tremendous heart and both have tremendous power. Its going to be a great fight.”

The trainer of Rios said “we have to be ready. Its not going to easy. Pacquiao is very fast , he has shown the world he is one of the best f or many years so we got to prepare to fight the best.”

Garcia added, “ I don’t want to go into the fight thinking okay Manny got knocked out in his last fight. I don’t want to think we can do the same thing because its going be really hard. But I know Brandon has tremendous power, tremendous heart and has wanted this for so many years.”

The trainer who also handles his younger brother and featherweight champion Mikey Garcia noted “this is the kind of fights that fans love to see. Two fighters that are very exciting who come to fight.”

Garcia concluded that after the Pacquiao-Rios fight he was sure fight fans “will walk out of the arena, happy.”
