GHOSTBUSTER: MAYWEATHER JR. EASILY OUTPOINTS ?THE GHOST? GUERRERO IN LAS VEGAS By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 05 May 2013 Floyd Mayweather Jr. remained boxing?s best with a masterful performance and victory Saturday night against his challenger, Robert Guerrero, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 36 year-old unbeaten and defending welterweight champion scored a convincing Unanimous Decision victory against Guerrero in a lopsided display of boxing prowess in the year?s first huge boxing event. Mayweather Jr. was accurate all night, particularly with his lead right hand that found its mark early and plenty on his opponent?s face. Guerrero?s face was already reddened in the 6th from eating those right hands and was sliced open in his right eye three rounds after that. Guerrero desperately tried to close in on the champ but Mayweather Jr. will not give him that opportunity, hitting first then sliding out of his opponent?s reach. But, Mayweather Jr. was not only hitting Guerrero at will, he was also successful at evading Guerrero?s attempts of pinning him in the ropes. He tried to muscle him in the post and the ropes but Mayweather effectively held him down with a tight grip, forcing the referee to break the action and stopping Guerrero?s intended attacks. It was clear as the fight went on that a Mayweather Jr. win is inevitable unless Guerrero knocks him out which was impossible to achieve against a mobile and slick champion like Mayweather Jr. Guerrero,30, who is nicknamed ?The Ghost? was fighting a real ghost in the ring in Mayweather Jr. instead. Mayweather Jr. retained his WBC welterweight belt with a 117-111 scores on all submitted cards from the three judges at ringside His performance and victory tonight quelled all doubts about his age and his long layoff from the ring . He also earned at least 32 million dollars in the process. Not bad for thirty six minutes of work.
