NBA -- Bulldozing Boozer leads Bulls to a 2-1 lead By Fidel Garcia PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Apr 2013 CHICAGO - In a game that started the way it ended, Carlos Boozer?s monster double-double proved to be the difference behind an impressive defensive performance by the Chicago Bulls, who held on to a 79-76 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in Game 3 of their opening round series. After taking away home-court advantage from the Nets with a Game 2 win in Brooklyn on Tuesday, the Bulls returned to Chicago on Thursday and held the Nets to 34 points in the first half at the United Center. Despite a 17 point deficit in the fourth quarter the Nets still had a chance to tie it at the final buzzer, but the Nets again shot awful from the field for the second straight game, shooting 34.6 percent. ?The Bulls are playing good defense. We are not shooting the three well at all. Not just the contested ones but the open ones," said a perplexed Brooklyn head coach PJ Carlesimo. Boozer recorded 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Luol Deng also chipped in with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Nets on the other hand were led by Brook Lopez?s 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 block shots. Deron Williams had 18 points but shot only 5 for 14 from the field. Joe Johnson, who was a game-time decision with plantar fasciitis in his foot added 15 points in nearly 41 minutes of play. After shaking off an early shooting slump that saw the Bulls down 12 in the first quarter, the Bulls would finish the 1st with a 19-17 lead. In the second quarter the Bulls would stretch the lead to 7, ending the half up 41-34. Things wouldn?t change in the third, Bulls held the Nets to 18 points, increasing their lead to 13, with the score 65-52 heading into the fourth. In the fourth the Nets caught a little fire, shooting 55 percent from the field, the Nets crawled back into the game. The Nets held the Bulls to 14 points, on 31 percent shooting. With 6:07 left, a reverse layup by Marco Belinelli would stretch the Bulls lead to 77-62. That would be the last field goal of the game for the Bulls, as the Nets would close the fourth on a 14-2 run. ?We had a hard time scoring, they had their way.? Said Coach Thibodeau. One free-throw each from Joakim Noah and Nate Robinson in the games last minute would be all the Bulls would need to hang on for the win. The Bulls are up 2 to 1 in this best-of-7 series, with action resuming on Saturday in Chicago.
