By Shelley Dano PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Apr 2013

LOS ANGELES -- The San Antonio Spurs showed their mastery of the slow and grinding half court set and punished the Los Angeles Lakers, 91-79, to take Game 1 of their opening round series Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker led the Spurs with 18 points apiece while Manu Ginobili added 18 in 19 minutes of action. Ginobili did nost of the damage from outside and helped quell several Lakers attempts to mount a rally.
The Spurs dominated the Lakers on points off turnovers, 17-2. Confounding the Lakers' woes was their 18 turnovers and the fact that San Antonio's bench outscored their reserves, 40-10..
The Lakers were led by Dwight Howard's 20 points and 15 rebounds while comebacking point guard Steve Nash contributed 16 points. Pau Gasol had 16 points and 16 rebounds and Steve Blake chipped in 12.
"We just lost. Sometimes, you just lose a game and then, you try to win the next game," said Metta World Peace, two-for-nine from the field. Game Two is on Wednesday, also in San Antonio.
The Lakers played without the injured Kobe Bryant who is out for the rest of the season with (torn Achilles tendon. (SD)
