NBA - Hot Knicks extend streak to 11 By Raman Sharma PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Apr 2013 NEW YORK -- - It was a night of ceremony, history, and joy as the New York Knicks celebrated the 40th anniversary of their 1973 championship with their 11th straight win, a 101-83 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks here at the Garden. Carmelo Anthony recorded his third straight 40+ point game finishing the evening with 42 points tying the Knicks franchise record held by his idol Bernard King who set the record back in the 1984-1985 season. JR Smith continued his solid play with another 30 point performance. The Knicks struggled in the first half and found themselves down 45-36. They lacked energy, played sloppily and didn't execute. Then came halftime and the honoring of the 1973 championship team. The entire team was in attendance and the words of Earl "The Pearl" Monroe might have given the Melo and company the spark they needed. The Pearl mentioned his hopes of today's Knicks leading the team to a 2013 title which led to cheers from everyone in attendance. Whether it was the Pearl's words or something else, the Knicks were a completely different team in the third quarter as they came out energized and focused. Anthony and JR Smith were the catalysts of the charge as Melo dropped 19 in the quarter including two from beyond the arc while Smith dropped four 3s accounting for his twelve points in the quarter. To add salt to the Bucks wounds, Jason Kidd hit a three-quarter court shot as time expired to cap off the 3rd which saw the Knicks outscore the Bucks 42-21 and take a 78-66 lead that Milwaukee would not be able to recover from. Cruising in the fourth quarter, the only task left was to see if Anthony could drop his third straight 40 point gem. With under two minutes to go in the game and the Bucks' Ersan Ilyasova covering the Knicks star, Melo sized him up and popped a three pointer over his outstretched arms that swished through the net and sent the sellout crowd into an uproar as chants of "MVP!, MVP!" filled the arena.
