NBA -- Knicks make triumphant return home By Raman Sharma PhilBoxing.com Thu, 21 Mar 2013 JERSEY CITY -- The 40-26 New York Knicks needed a feel-good win after returning home from a disastrous 1-4 Western Conference trip. And Carmelo Anthony made sure that's exactly what would happen when he slipped back into the starting lineup to the delight of the Madison Square Garden faithful. Anthony notched 21 points and eight rebounds in his return from right knee arthrocentesis which forced him to miss 6 of the last 8 games. He was able to elevate effortlessly for alleyoop dunks and make multiple crisp jabsteps, showing no lingering health issues. Led by J.R. Smith's 22 points, the Knicks shot a high 53% from the field Wednesday night. Smith said his shooting performance was a byproduct of "attacking the basket," telling reporters "it's been working lately and that's what I'm going to keep doing." Once again, the Knicks buried their opponents from three point range, shooting a combined 15 of 34 for 44%. The 6?9? Kenyon Martin started at center and excelled in his role as a low-post scorer and an intimidating defender. The Orlando Magic (18-51) were led by Tobias Harris and Andrew Nicholson who chipped in 14 points each. It was a homecoming for a few of New York City's finest recent prep talent on the Orlando roster. Tobias Harris was New York?s Mr. Basketball in 2010 and is from Long Island. Moe Harkless and Kyle O'Quinn are from Queens. Finally, the rookie from University of Kentucky, Doron Lamb hails from Brooklyn. Their family and friends were in attendance and heard cheering amidst the sea of Knicks fans. Updating our previous report, Knicks GM Glen Grunwald is not planning to apply for NBA?s hardship exception. Head coach Mike Woodson said, ?Our team as it stands today is what it is. We have to try to get Kurt and Rasheed back.? Of note, Marcus Camby turns 39 years old this Friday. Knicks legends Patrick Ewing and John Starks of the 1994 Eastern Conference championship team were in attendance. (RS) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Raman Sharma. |
