NBA - Knicks lose three in a row By Rajah Allarey PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Mar 2013 ![]() JERSEY CITY -- With crisp passing and good ball movement, the New York Knicks executed like a team that was about to snap back-to-back road losses Thursday night when they traveled to face the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. But after taking a 41-28 lead with still 7:54 left in the second quarter, the Knicks melted completely and watched the Blazers turn the contest around with a sizzling 23-7 run that left New York in the dust -- 51-48 -- by halftime. The Knicks showed up in Portland without Tyson Chandler, Amar'e Stoudemire and leading scorer Carmelo Anthony. And while they thrived for a while, they were eventually overpowered by the Blazers, who won the rebounds tussle 44-40 and enjoyed a 40-34 edge in points inside the paint. The Blazers shot 51.3 percent from the field while New York struggled, shooting only 43.9 percent. "Without those three -- not so say we're supposed to beat them, because they're still a good team -- but if you can catch a team like that on your homecourt, you want to win the game. We were able to get it done." Lillard told NBA.com Lillard was instrumental in handing New York its third straight debacle, scoring 26 points and passing 10 assists. All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge added 22 and 10 while J.J. Hickson chipped in 12 points and a massive 16 boards. Portland, which won only for the fifth time in 17 tries, also got a combined 30 points from Nicolas Batum and Wesley Matthews. Streak-shooter J.R. Smith led the Knicks with 33 points off the bench, but he could save New York, which missed 18 of 25 attempts from above the three-point arc. Kenyon Martin finished with12 and Raymond Felton had 11, but no other Knick scored in double figures. (RA) Photo: Knicks forward Kenyon Martin sets a hard pick for J.R.
