Amateur Boxing Star Albert Bell Set to Turn Pro PhilBoxing.com Wed, 13 Mar 2013 TOLEDO, Ohio - Amateur boxing standout Albert "Prince" Bell has announced that he will turn professional this year in order to make his mark on the paid ranks. The 20-year-old Bell has signed with manager Venky Cantua and is exploring options for his first pro bout in the coming months. Bell, a native of Toledo, Ohio, has won nearly every notable amateur tournament in America at 132 pounds, including the National P.A.L. championships in 2011 and National Golden Gloves in 2012, as well as Junior Olympic Regional, State and Ringside world championships. Trained by his father Andrew Bell since picking up the sport at age 8, Bell came up just short of making the 2012 Olympic Boxing team, losing in the trials to eventual winner Jose Ramirez. Among his 130 amateur wins are victories over current unbeaten professional prospects Toka Kahn Clary, Kendo Castaneda and Pedro Duran. Standing 6 feet tall, Bell will drop down to the featherweight division, where his size and reach are unparalleled. Possessing crunching power in both hands with speed to match, Bell figures to be a force in boxing in the years to come. "I've looked forward to this my whole life, ever since I became a fighter," said Bell of turning professional. "I'm excited to finally get started and to get my first crack at the pro ranks. Beginning with 2013, the future is mine. Remember my name because The Prince has arrived." Said Andrew Bell: "Prince is cream of the crop, and all the cream rises to the top. My son will eventually get to the top because he's very dedicated and has always been since day one when I put a pair of gloves on him for the first time." Said Cantua: "The reason Albert fights is to get his family out of the ghetto, to be financial secure and to be one of the best that ever laced gloves up. He has stayed away from trouble with the law thanks to his dedication to boxing. Albert has a great work ethic, is focused on his goals and is a all around humble guy. He believes that, with God in his corner and hard work, the sky is the limit." |
