NBA - Cavs outlast struggling Bulls, 101-98 By Francisco Marron Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Feb 2013 CHICAGO -- In a battle between two injury-depleted teams, the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers got the better of the Chicago Bulls, 101-98, Tuesday night at the United Center. Without All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who was sidelined by a sore knee, Dion Waters and Shaun Livingston rushed to the Cavaliers rescue by scoring 25 and 15 points respectively. Wayne Ellington also helped Cleveland's cause with 15 points while veteran Luke Walton had an all-around brilliance that him eight points, five rebounds and five assists, Walton also stole a Bulls' inbounds pass in the final 15 seconds of play, sealing Chicago's doom. The continued absence of superstar guard Derrick Rose (torn ACL) was compounded by the shelving of super reserve Taj Gibson, who sprained MCL sustained and will miss at least two weeks of action. Minus Gibson's length and enthusiasm, the Bulls were beaten in the rebounding department as Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller combined for 16 of the Cavaliers' 39 rebounds, three more than Chicago. After a 48-48 deadlock at halftime, Cleveland created some distance with a 27-point third quarter. The four-point cushion entering the fourth quarter proved enough to hold off the rallying Bulls. Power forward Carlos Boozer and small forward Luol Deng combined for 53 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. But it wasn't enough as no ther starter besides Hinrich (11 points, 11 assists), hit their stride. With their seventh loss in 10 outings, the Bulls dropped to 32-25, four games behind the streaking 36-21 Indiana Pacers, who sit atop the Central Division.
