NBA ? Blazers thwart Knicks, spoil Studemire?s return By Reynaldo Seno PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Jan 2013 NEW YORK ? This wasn?t exactly Willis Reed jogging through that tunnel, not even close?the build-up, the drama, the intensity and the roar of the Garden faithful. But to those too young to remember that fateful night, this was close enough. ? ? Amare Studemire, the 6-foot-11, 245-pound power forward for the Knicks?returned to action for the first time this season and came off the bench at 3:31 in the first quarter. He went 0-5 in the first half and finished the game with six points at the packed Madison Square Garden. ? ? ?I did everything I can to get back into top shape and be healthy again,? Stoudemire said in a televised pre-game interview. ?I followed every instruction the training staff gave me and I feel great now.? ? ? But it was once again the front line tandem of JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony who combined for 73 of the 105 total game points that kept the New York Knicks in the game, however, only starting center Tyson Chandler managed to score in double figures, chipping in a measly 10 points to match his seven rebounds, as the Knick bench could only manage no more than 6 points or less. ? That was no match to Portland?s balanced scoring led by Nicolas Batum who torched the Knick defenders with 26 points, followed by Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge who scored 21 and 19 points respectively. Damian Lillard also handed out six helpers along with five rebounds, while LaMarcus Aldridge had 14 rebounds. ? ? Still playing without starting point guard Raymond Felton and the veteran Rasheed Wallace, the Knicks?trailed early, and at one point were behind by as much as 19 points. Despite Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith?s combined efforts late in the fourth quarter the Blazers always managed to give themselves some breathing room with timely shots from Damian Lillard and JJ Hickson. Final score 105-100 ? ? With the loss the Knicks now sport a 20-10 Win - Loss column, behind the Heat?s Conference leading 21-8.
