Knicks in hard fought win against the Nets By Reynaldo Seno PhilBoxing.com Thu, 13 Dec 2012 ![]() Until both teams start winning division/conference titles at each other?s expense, no matter what the pundits say, this is not a rivalry in the strictest sense of the word yet. But it is starting to have the look and feel of one. The Nets capitalized on the Knicks? lackadaisical start highlighted by sloppy plays as they take an early 26-9 start led by back-up center Andre Blatche who finished the first half with 12 points followed by Gerald Wallace who contributed 10 and Joe Johnson who had nine points. The Knicks fell behind by as much as 17 points in the first quarter. Carmelo Anthony singlehandedly kept his team in the game with his timely shooting, finishing with 22 points, but he was the only Knick who was able to score in double digits as the Nets nursed a four point lead at halftime at 49-53. Jason Kidd started the second half with a 3 pointer and a Raymond Felton jumper as the Knicks take the lead for the first time in the game at, 54-53, Deron Williams broke the Nets? silence with a 3 pointer as the Nets retake the lead at 54-56. Carmelo replied with a 3 ball of his own, Knicks 57-56. It was a hard fought, downright battle from there both in the offensive and defensive end. Brooklyn was up 74-79 at the start of the fourth quarter but JR Smith caught fire hitting his next five shots from the field as New York cut that lead to 80-83. The Nets increased the lead to five 80-85 on a Gerald Wallace slam off a nifty Deron Williams pass. The Nets sport an 88-91 lead late in the fourth canto but Jason Kidd?s fifth 3 pointer knotted the count at 91-91. The lead exchanged hands a couple more times until Jason Kidd?s game winning four point play, giving the Knicks their 16th win and the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Carmelo Anthony finished the game with a season high 45 points followed by Jason Kidd?s 18 points and JR Smith?s 16. The Nets on the other hand were led by Andre Blatche?s season high of 23 points backed by Deron Williams? 18 points with Gerald Wallace and Jo Johnson?s 17 and 16 points respectively. With the loss the Brooklyn Nets who looked promising early on in the season now tote a disappointing 11-9 record. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Reynaldo Seno. ![]() |
