AFTER MAKING WEIGHTS, FILIPINO WARRIORS ARE READY FOR WAR! (PHOTOS) By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 08 Dec 2012 Pacquiao and his fellow fighters make weight for tomorrow's battle Las Vegas, Nevada - Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez both make the welterweight limit of 147 lbs during today's official weigh-in at the very arena where they will be facing each other in tomorrow's war of a match. Juan Manuel Marquez, 39, was the first fighter of the two to step the official NSAC scales at a makeshift stage of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. He weighed at a trim 143 lbs. and showed the body of work that he has been working on for four months. "We know each other very well. After thirty six rounds, we know each other very well. It is going to be a war. It is going to be a war," stated Marquez. "We prepared for this for four months, we are going to be well prepared," assured Marquez. This is the most important one (of all the three fights), to show who the better man is." he ended. Manny Pacquiao, 33, followed his Mexican rival to the scales right away and weighed in at an even 147 lbs. for tomorrow's showdown. Pacquiao was asked about the massive storm that hit the Philippines and his island and he relayed his sympathy to them. He dedicated this fight with Marquez to all those affected by the calamity. "This fight will be dedicated to all of you," expressed the Filipino superstar. Pacquiao assured everybody that he is still a hungry fighter and came prepared like his rival in the ring. "We did all our best in training and we are ready for the fight." Both fighters posed for the customary fighter face-off in front of thousands who trooped to the venue for today's event. They were cheered by their respective fans and countrymen who showed their loyalty by waving their flags and their home made posters and banners which made for a festive day at the scales. Four other Filipino fighters who will see action tomorrow also made their respective weight limits for their separate bouts tomorrow. Michael Farenas, 28, of Gubat, Sorsogon weighed in at 130 lbs. for his WBA Super Featherweight battle against Yuriorkis Gamboa, 30, who came in at the same weight. Mercito Gesta,25, of Mandaue City clocked in at 134 lbs. for his first attempt at a world title shot against IBF Lightweight champion, Miguel Angel Vazquez. Vazquez, 25, weighed in at an even 135 lbs. which was the limit for their championship contest. The son of the legend, Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr., of Cebu City, was at 123.5 lbs. while his opponent, Jesus Lule Raya, 28, of Fort Myers, Fl. was at 124 lbs. The two will battle a scheduled eight round Featherweight bout which has a limit of 126 lbs in the early fights of tomorrow's big boxing match. Ernie Sanchez, 20, of General Santos City stepped the scales at 127 lbs. for his eight round Super Featherweight fight against Coy Evans, 28, of Philadelphia, PA who clocked in at 126.5 lbs. Here are the rest of the weights for the other fighters that will be fighting tomorrow at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Patrick Hyland, 29, of Dublin, Ireland was an even 126 lbs. for his WBA Featherweight title shot against fellow unbeaten boxer, Javier Fortuna. Fortuna, 23, of Pt. Hueneme, CA also weighed in at a the same 126 lbs. limit for tomorrow's contest. Jose Ramirez,20, of Avenal, CA clocked in at 137 lbs against Corey Siegwarth who was at 136 lbs. for their 4 round Lightweight bout. Alexis Hernandez,20, of Las Vegas, NV weighed 121 lbs. against Jazzma Hogue,26, of Farmington, NM who was at 121 lbs. The two will slug in a 4 round Featherweight (126 lbs.) fight.
