NBA -- Knicks bounce back; clobber sliding Pacers By Roel Iway PhilBoxing.com Tue, 20 Nov 2012 ![]() NEW YORK -- After their unbeaten record was stained by a 105-95 loss to the Grizzlies in Memphis last Friday night, the New York Knicks returned home to the Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon and took out their frustration by pounding the fast-slipping Indiana Pacers, 88-76. With the win, the Knicks surged to a 7-1 record, a full game ahead of the 6-2 Brooklyn Nets and the surprising Milwaukee Bucks for the best record in the Eastern Conference. The 8-1 Grizzlies lead the NBA overall. The sluggish Pacers trailed 41-30 at the halftime break and the Knicks extended the bubble to 56-40 at the 7:02 mark of the third quarter following a lay-in by Ronnie Brewer. The Pacers got to within 63-51 near the end of the third period, but the Knicks stepped on the gas and led by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter to put the game's outcome beyond doubt. Indiana was a dismal 39.4 percent from the field (28-of-71), prompting Knicks ace Carmelo Anthony to heap praises on his team's defense. "Today is one of those days where we had to do it on the defensive end. Offensively, we were trying to find it, shots that we miss that we normally make. But on the defensive end for us to be in sync the way we are right now especially this early into the season that's a good thing we have to keep building on that guys having each other's back there on the basketball court is a great thing and when you're stopping teams and getting out it makes the game that much fun," Anthony told NBA.com Anthony had 26 points and nine rebounds while point guard Raymond Felton did a remarkable job running the offense with 11 points, eight assists and zero turnovers.J.R. Smith came off the bench and drilled 5-of-10 shots for 13 points, Steve Novak and the recently unretired Rasheed Wallace added nine each for New York. The Pacers, deemed as one of the East heavyweights this season after a strong playoffs showing last summer against the eventual champions Miami Heat, continue to struggle as the team fell to 4-7. The Pacers are, however, without their leading scorer and leader -- Danny Granger -- who will miss three months due a left knee injury. Paul George led the Pacers with 20 against the Knicks while David West pumped in 14. (Roel Iway) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Roel Iway. ![]() |
