NBA -- Bulls hold off rallying Suns
By Carroll L. Bruton Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 Nov 2012

CHICAGO -- It didn't have to be this hard. But a win is a win is a win.
Up large and cruising all the way, the Bulls surrendered an 18-point, third quarter lead before finally beating the Suns in overtime, 112-106, Wednesday night at the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix.
Leading 79-61 with only 3:04 left in the third quarter, the Bulls appeared headed to their sixth win in nine contests, a welcome start to their five-game, 12-day road trip dubbed as the annual "circus" trip. But the Suns slowly but surely nibbled at the lead until a big 3 by Sebastian Telfair evened the count at 93-93 with still 3:19 left in the fourth quarter.
But the Bulls recovered nicely, scoring six unanswered points in the extra session to put the stubborn Suns away for good.
"We showed a lot of toughness. In the end, you have to find a way to win. And we did that," a relieved Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune.
Carlos Boozer carried the Bulls on his broad shoulders with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Joakim Noah and Luol Deng contirbuted 21 apiece while Rip Hamilton added 15. Kirk Hinrich, who had been sidelined by a strained hip, returned to the starting lineup and had a modest three points and seven assists. The rusty Hinrich also had four turnovers.
Forward Luis Scola had 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Suns, who made only 42 of 105 field goals (40 percent). Telfair finished with 17 whie Michael Beasly and Goran Dragic had 12 each. Ex-Laker Shannon Brown, a Chicago native, added 11 markers for Phoenix.
The Suns dropped to 4-5 in the overall standings while the 6-3 Bulls head off to Los Angeles with a Saturday night showdown against the run-and-gun L.A. Clippers. After facing the Clippers, the Bulls then take the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden for a brutal back-to-back sortie. (Carroll L. Bruton Jr)
