PACQUIAO DECLARES: 'The winner is me and me alone' PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Nov 2006 As the odds continue to stack heavily in his favor, Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao is now showing traces of discomfort as he downplayed expectations of an overwhelming triumph when he faces Mexican ring legend Erik Morales on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) for the Grand Finale: Pacquiao-Morales III at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. ?I have already spared another 150 rounds and, you know, I?m not promising that I?ll knock him out. I?ll just do my best to make people happy. I?ll do my best to make my countrymen proud and to give them another good fight,? Pacquiao said a day after arriving in Las Vegas for his third and final brawl with Morales. The two boxers are even in the two times they have fought. Betting stations in the world?s gambling capital showed Pacquiao enjoying a -210 betting odds last Sunday. But Pacquiao is now worth -220 at Sportsbook, a vast improvement from his -185 value few days back. Morales, meanwhile, is deemed to be the underdog with a +165 betting proposition. Pacquiao, however, sees it as a distraction that pressures him. He said when they climb the ring, everything will be even and the only thing that will matter is their determination to win and the discipline of their preparations. While the sullen Morales, who just arrived the other day at Wynn Hotel, is still struggling to achieve his 130 lbs target weight, Pacquiao is reportedly running like a deer in the campus grounds of University of Las Vegas in Nevada. He has also started avoiding unnecessary food that will hamper his physique. Also, the 27-year-old native of General Santos City is very sharp as he waged 157 rounds of daily sparring session aside from the arduous physical workout and killer diet, which give him no excuse to lose. ?The pressure on us is enormous, which will force me to attack the second I hear the bell for Round One. But there will be only one winner and the winner will be me and only me,? Pacquiao said. ?Our fight is bigger than the two of us because we carry more into the ring than most other fighters. We carry the pride and honor of our countries and the heart and soul of our people.? After losing with a bleeding cut in the right eyebrow in his first match against Morales, Pacquiao came roaring back in their second meeting as he floored the pride of Tijuana, Mexico in the 10th round. ?In the first fight, I?ve got lots of problems because there were so many distractions with my manager and my promoter, and even, my personal problems. I was on top of that big fight in the first few rounds until I got a big cut, lost focus and lost the fight,? Pacquio said. ?But in the second one, I did great. I had the right gloves, I used my right hand more and more effectively and I went straight at Morales with a lot more confidence and weapons. So that?s why I dominated Morales in the second fight.? |
