NBA -- Milwaukee Bucks stun Celtics
By Matthew A. Williams PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Nov 2012
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks spoiled the Boston Celtics' regular season home opener Friday night by scoring a huge 99-88 upset at the famed TD Garden.
Brandon Jennings, the explosive four-year veteran who skipped college to go pro in Europe before barging in the NBA, was spectacular with 21 points and 13 assists. The 6-foot-1, Jennings made 9-of-17 field goals and came up with six steals as Milwaukee attacked early on the way to a relatively easy win. Monta Ellis, Jannings' backcourt tandem, had a quiet 14 points but four other Bucks scored in double figures.
"We were aggressive on both ends, we were competitve, we were quick to loose balls, and overall played very well," Bucks head coach Scott Skiles told NBA.com.
Milwaukee pulled off the stunner by hitting 40 of 86 field goals (46.5 percent) and 8 of 18 treys (44.4 percent). The Bucks, who surged to 1-0, were terrific on the free throw line, 11 of 12.
Led by Kevin Garnett's 15, six Celtics players ended up scoring in double digits. But they couldn't completely overhaul a 22-point deficit the Bucks erected in the third quarter. Rajon Rondo had 14 points and 11 assists while Paul Pierce settled for 11. Ex-Maverick Jason Terry and Brandon Bass tallied 10 apiece.
After losing to the Miami Heat in a match-up between heavyweights on NBA's Opening Night on October 31, the Boston Celtics are 0-2.
But head coach Doc Rivers appears unfazed and told NBA.com, "I don't see the urgency yet. I don't like the way we're approaching the games. And unitl we (improve) that we will continue to struggle." (Matthew A. Williams)
