GARCIA DOESN?T PLAN TO SHOW MORALES RESPECT IN THEIR REMATCH By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 17 Oct 2012 World Boxing Council/World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Danny ?Swoft? Garcia doesn?t plan to show former champion and Mexican legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales the kind of respect he showed the ageing Morales in their first fight in Houston, Texas last March 24 which Garcia won by a twelve round unanimous decision after Morales failed to make the weight and was stripped of the title. The Garcia-Morales rematch will be telecast on the widely-watched weekly boxing show ? Big Time Bakbakan? at 12:00 noon on Sunday over AKTV IBC 13 right after The Main Event which features a preview of the Abner Mares ? Anselmo ?Chemito? Moreno super bantamweight title fight at 11:00 a.m. Since that first fight against Morales, Garcia scored a stunning 4th round TKO over the fancied Amir Khan in Garcia?s first defense of the title on July 14, 2012. Philadelphia Inquirer staff writer Matt Breen reported that Garcia who looked impressive in beating Morales said "I showed him too much respect and this time I can't show him any respect." Garcia allowed Morales to set the pace in the early rounds of their first encounter but this time he vows it's going to be very different. The 24 year old Garcia who is nicknamed ?Swift? and has an undefeated record of 24-0 with 15 knockouts recalled "I was standing in front of him too long and letting the older guy think. This time I can't let him think, I have to go in there and destroy." Garcia who is trained by his father, Angel Garcia, turned down Khan?s request for a rematch claiming he didn?t deserve it but believes Morales is different. While he doesn?t plan to show Morales any respect in their rematch, he remembers that Morales ?gave me a shot at the title when nobody knew me. I was a young kid, he had nothing to win if he beat me. He would've beaten a young kid with no experience." Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
