PUNGLUANG TO ARRIVE EARLY FOR BANAL TITLE SHOWDOWN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 08 Oct 2012 Thailand?s Pungluang Sor Singyu the No. 2 ranked bantamweight will arrive early in Manila for his battle against the top-rated AJ ?Bazooka? Banal for the vacant WBO bantamweight title at the Mall of Asia Arena along Roxas Boulevard on October 20. Pungluang who has been training at an army camp in Thailand will arrive on October 16 along with his trainers Phanlop Sri Phraiwan, Mueankhit Saensuk and Amirut Chuebang as well as OneSongchai Promotions representative Michael Du. The solidly built Pungluang is reportedly in fine shape and is confident of overcoming the southpaw Banal. They are battling for the title relinquished by Mexico?s Jorge Arce who has moved up to campaign in the 122 pound division and is eyeing a fight with current WBO/IBF champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire provided Donaire beats Japan?s WBC champion emeritus Toshiaki Nishioka on October 13 at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, California. Siraphop Ratanasuban, vice president of the of the huge OneSongchai Promotions outfit in Thailand told the Manila Standard that Pungluang ?is now training very hard? in an army facility in Chonburi province and is being trained by a former Pan Asia Boxing Association champion whose name he did not mention. He said Pungluang is sparring with several Thai boxing champions. Ratanasuban described Pungluang as ?a fighter with a big heart and very disciplined." Banal has likewise been going through a rough grind at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu under the watchful eyes of trainers Edito ?Ala? Villamor and brother Edmund Villamor. Banal is also working with strength and conditioning coach Pio Solon who also worries about Banal?s proper nutrition. While the Banal-Pungluang WBO title fight is getting much of the attention, the undercard which also features two championship bouts is capable of upstaging the main event. A joint effort of ALA Promotions and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN, the Philippines vs The World showdown will involve the return of charismatic featherweight Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista (33-2, 25 KO?s) against hardened Mexican journeyman Daniel Ruiz for the WBO International title while exciting Jason Pagara will face undefeated Barbados fighter Miguel Antoine (17-0-1, 9 KO?s) for the vacant WBO International light welterweight title.
