Logan ?Cotton? McGuinness Remains Undefeated

PhilBoxing.com

One of the fastest rising Canadian Pugilist is the undefeated NABA Super Featherweight Champion Logan ?Cotton? McGuiness (18W-0L-1D). If you know Logan McGuiness, he is a young man that exemplifies what a champion should be inside and outside the ring. His pleasant character and the sportsmanship he demonstrates when the bell rings make him a young Ambassador for Canadian Boxing for many years to come. When it comes to facing an opponent, Logan McGuiness is one of the best you find out there.

For the first time in recent memory, boxing came to the Sleeman Center in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, a new destination, a new footprint for Canadian Boxing. The newly formed Proforce Promotions Inc. held their first fight card dubbed as ?Royal City Rumble? with an ambitious fight card featuring young talents. Royal City Rumble was co-promoted with Hennessy Sports Canada which put on the main event Logan ?Cotton? McGuinness vs. Krzysztof Szot.

In the main event Logan ?Cotton? McGuinness came out strong and dominated Krzysztof Szot with his crisp jabs, he used his reach advantage over Szot and landed key head and body shots in the opening rounds. McGuinness? pronounced jabs gave him to opportunity to assemble combinations that displayed his offensive arsenal that pleased the crowd.

In the second and third rounds, McGuinness poked Szots holes and landed many jabs and blows, it looks like McGuinness will start to pull away with this fight at this point, the rugged Krzysztof Szot (16W-3L-1D) from Poland was a slow starter but demonstrated his endurance and chin can handle all the punches McGuinness administered; Szot walked through them and had little effects into the middle rounds. McGuinness stylish sticking jab continued to land points on Szot, but he Polish Fighter would not fold.

From the fourth, McGuinness? face started to cut up as he bled from the mouth and nose. Krzysztof Szot fists had started to come alive and pressured McGuinness with counter punches mostly to his face. Szot?s power punches started to slow down McGuinness who was not as lively as the opening three rounds. McGuinness? combos and power punches to the head and body on Szot had slowed right down. Szot who was the smaller but muscular fighter inflicted his own style of pressurized punishment on McGuinness who was standing flush in front of Szot. You could hear Coach Ryan Grant from McGuinness corner instructing his fighter to move around and get out of harm?s way as they saw the McGuinness take a number of power shots that bruised up and opened more cuts in his face.

McGuinness came back to life in round five; his jab came back and assembled combinations that landed on Szot. Based on the punishment McGuinness inflicted on Szot on this round, it would appear that this was the beginning of Szot?s dismantling, but the rugged muscle bound Pugilist had other plans.

Szot?s punches got harder in round six; he answered back with his own style of inside pressure fighting and counter punches, head hunting for McGuinness head. This was Szot?s best round, he landed three big shots to close out the round. The crowd showed concern for their Champion.

In round seven McGuinness replies with his own combinations on Szot?s head and body, he pried his way in urgently and answered back to Szot?s attack in the sixth. Szot slowed down a little but kept on coming and coming and got caught with more punches by McGuinness. In the eighth round both boxers administered an even amount of punishment on each other, big punches went back and forth.

In round nine Szot was game and started to land bombs on McGuinness? face which swelled up, the cut under McGuinness? left eye was certainly more visible. By this time, McGuinness looked like he took on more punishment than Szot due to the condition of his face and blood coming out from the side of his mouth and nose. Both showed fatigue but McGuinness fought smart and went back to what he did in the start of the fight which was utilized his to jab to keep Szot at bay.

In the closing round McGuinness puts on the pressure on Szot even though he was showing signs of fatigue. It was hard to see if Szot was in the same condition because he kept charging and he was game to blow out this fight. Szot also didn?t display much facial expression throughout the fight, but he did not have the same legs from here. McGuinness struggled but continued to connect with jabs and combinations even though he had slowed down, he was back to his game plan earning more points and winning more rounds than Szot. McGuinness was simply the busier fighter tonight, his jab and combinations were more consistent throughout the fight.

Logan McGuinness wins again by way of unanimous decision and remains undefeated 99-91, 97-93, 98-92 over the rugged Polish Krzysztof Szot. This was not one of McGuinness better fights but he fought smart and got the job done by landing more touches with his jab. The crowd was pleased with Logan McGuinness once again because he was up against someone who has in world class fights that packed a big punch.

Undercard results of Royal City Rumble Heavyweight Divison Frank Rill wins by unanimous decision over Craig Hudson 30-40, 35-9(x2). Cruiserweights John Mercante wns by unanimous decision over Emile Asenault 59-55,60-55-59-55. Light Middleweights Fitz Vanderpoolwins by unanimous decision over Phl Rose 59-55, 58-56 (x2).
