REYES SHOWED MAGICAL TOUCH IN PRACTICE FOR WORLD CUP OF POOL By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 04 Sep 2012 Efren ?Bata? Reyes showed his old magical touch during a practice session with Filipino legend Francisco ?Django? Bustamante, his partner in two Party Poker.Net ?World Cup of Pool? championships, on Sunday. Bustamante told the Manila Standard that should Reyes pull off the kind of shots he made during practice they have as good a chance as any of the 31 other pairs to win the coveted trophy and the prize money of $60,000. The popular duo appeared at the official press conference hosted by Matchroom Sport and Solar Sports, the network that will telecast the event for the fourth year running. But the veteran pair who are classified as the Philippines ?B? team while hotshot Dennis Orcullo and Lee Van Corteza comprise the ?A? Team indicated that the field was really tough and that the team to beat is the German duo of Ralf ?The Kaiser? Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann who are eager to enter the record books as the first back--to-back winners of the tournament. Souquet conceded that even though Reyes and Bustamante don?t work out in a gym like he and Hohmann and many of the younger generation of players do, their ?knowledge of the game is so huge and certainly Efren is called ?The Magician? for a good reason.? The German ace said Reyes ?comes up with shots that others don?t see or play and he has such a different imagination for seeing shots that no other player takes. That?s why he (Efren) is the greatest.? He said Bustamante ?is also another great shot-maker? even as Matchroom executive Luke Riches remembered that when Reyes and Bustamante scored an epic 11-9 come-from behind? win against Souquet and Hohmann on September 6, 2009 it was one of the most dramatic, emotional and top quality matches in the ?World Cup of Pool.? The PartPoker.net ?World Cup of Pool? breaks at 12:00 noon on Tuesday at the Robinson?s Ermita Midtown Activity Center with the top class English duo of Darren Appleton and Chris Melling going up against the Belgian combine of Serge Das and Cliff Castelmein while Reyes and Bustamante wrap up Day One matches when they face the under-rated Hong Kong pair of Lee Chenman and Kenny Kwok at 6:00 p.m. Orcullo who returned from a Malaysian tournament on Sunday was not feeling well and didn?t attend the press conference but his partner Lee Van Corteza said he?ll be fine and that they have practiced together and will do their best for the country.
