DONAIRE SAYS HE?LL BE READY FOR ARCE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 20 Jul 2012 WBO/IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire says he?ll be ready to face Mexican warrior Jorge ?Travieso? Arce tentatively set for July 20 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. However, a conflict in the telecast of the planned title fight for the vacant WBO bantamweight crown relinquished by Arce, between No. 1 ranked AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and No.2 ranked Thai Pungluang Sor Sungyu and the Donaire-Arce which will be both telecast by ABS-CBN over Channel 2 will have to be resolved. The issue is likely to be settled when Top Rank promoter Bob Arum arrives in Manila and meets with ABS-CBN Vice president for Sports Peter Musngi in the first week of August. Donaire?s wife Rachel had earlier informed us that the Arce showdown was set for October 13 but Arum told us the other day it would be October 20. In an overseas telephone conversation with the Manila Standard, Donaire said his training regimen for the Arce fight would be different from the manner in which he prepared for the title unification bout with IBF champion Jeffrey Mathebula last July 7 at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, California. Donaire who is scheduled to arrive along with his wife Rachel from Las Vegas via Philippine Airlines on Monday morning said ?It?s a different mentality, different type of training this time.? He said he will work on throwing ?a lot of combinations? in the Arce fight which, he added ?will most likely benefit me." It was generally noted that in the Mathebula fight Donaire did not throw too many, multi-punch combinations even though he dropped Mathebula early in the fight and won handily. Asked whether he had learned anything from his unanimous decision win over Mathebula, Donaire replied ?its about trying to correct what I?ve learned in the Mathebula fight being the shorter guy it?s the most difficult to fight a taller guy and I know that now.? Donaire recalled that in all of his fights prior to facing off with the lanky 5?10? South African he fought shorter opponents and that ?now I can figure out the weakness already and I will definitely know how to handle Arce.? When we noted that Arce comes to fight Donaire said ?that?s very good for me? which he indicated would give him an opportunity to use his counter-punching skills. Donaire?s wife Rachel said her husband is arriving in Manila to shoot a Visayan movie to be produced by a member of the famed Visayan movie family of Matt Ranillo. She said present plans call for them to arrive in Manila, ?stay for one day then go to Japan for three days and then come back for three days in Manila and a week-and-a-half shooting in Laguna.?
