PARADISE BALIANGAO HOSTS SGG BOXING By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 Jul 2012 Melligen. Two big name fighters in the Philippines topbill what is expected to be a slambang night of boxing as SGG Promotions presents a 6-bout card in the picturesque town of Baliangao in Misamis Occidental in Northern Mindanao tonight. The free-to-the-public event gets underway at the Baliangao Municipal Plaza tonight, says promoter Sammy Gello-ani in an interview with Philboxing.com today from his lairs in that tourism town, a fantastic getaway not far from the world-famous Dakak resort. In the main event, WBO Asia Pacific superfeatherweight champion Jose Ocampo goes up against Roland Teofilo in a non-title ten-round bout sure to produce fireworks in this peaceful town Baliangao. This will be Ocampo's first outing since his explosive win over Weng Haya to win the prestigious WBO title back in March at the Cebu Coliseum. The co-feature marks the return to action of Mark Jason Melligen, who previously campaigned in the United States, who will take on veteran journeyman Dondon Lapuz. Melligen, the former amateur boxing prodigy before turning pro under the famed ALA Boxing Stable, will try to retrace the path that brought him to Las Vegas as he takes on his first step with a fight against the hard-hitting Lapuz. Melligen's Las Vegas-based trainer Tony Martin had previously indicated that the fighter is always welcome to return to Sin City for fights should he come out fine, victorious and focused. Also tabbed to see action is Jessie Cris Rosales who will trade leathers with veteran Donriel Marcos, while Jessie Espina takes on Mateo Hashmo. Korean Jong Won Jeun tests mettles with Dondon Navarez, and in the curtain-raiser, Jesper Buhat goes up against Michael Dopel. Several amateur bouts are also penciled in before the professional bouts. Baliangao Mayor Lana Jalosjos-De Leon, who has helped SGG put up the show, has emphasized Baliangao's tourism potentials and aims to transform it into a resort municipality, not too far from Dakak and the world-class entertainment hub Fantasyland. "Baliangao can be a great tourism hub, in fact they have the fantastic Sunrise Beach Resort which will surely be attractive to visitors," added Gello-ani. Meanwhile, Baliangao also aims be included in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of seashells available in one day. The place teems with all sorts of seashells, said Gello-ani. Gello-ani's fighters, meanwhile, have opted to train in Baliangao before their big fights to avoid the big-city distraction that comes with training in Cebu or Manila.
