ANDREW GOLOTA MAY BE DEPORTED FROM THE US

 Andrew Golota.
Former colorful heavyweight Andrew Golota (41-8-1, 33 ko'S) who engaged champion Riddick Bowe in two action-packed, foul-marred title fights and also battled Mike Tyson, may be deported to Poland from the United States.
The 44 year old Pole who won a Bronze medal in the 1988 Olympic Games losing to South Korea's Baik Hyun-Man on a Referee Stopped Contest in the 2nd round in Seoul, South Korea lives in Chicago where his wife Mariola was quoted by the Chicago Tribune newspaper as saying his case is now in court and a decision is likely in September.
Golota who is a legal permanent resident of the US apparently wanted to become an American citizen but the papers he filed began a criminal background check which produced negative reports including his guilty plea in 2006 in a case involving one dozen firearms found at his home.
Golota also pleaded guilty in 2003 to impersonating a police officer. He was accused of flashing an honorary New Jersey police badge when he was pulled over in the Chicago suburbs of Will County.
Mariola Golota said the deportation case was "this big, black cloud that's hanging over our family." An attorney and US citizen, she said her husband was treated more harshly because of his celebrity status.
"I just hope it's going to turn out OK. It's kind of out of your hands," Mariola said. "Andrew paid dearly for whatever he did. You pay once when you plead guilty and then you pay again, and that's much harsher."
Since his retirement, Golota has appeared in a commercial for the US Census Bureau and on Poland's version of Dancing With the Stars.
