ANOTHER BUM DECISION RESULTS IN RUBILLAR LOSING IN WBO LATINO TITLE FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Rubillar.
One week after ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao was robbed of his WBO welterweight title in one of the worst decisions in pro boxing, another Filipino has suffered a somewhat similar fate.

Respected boxing writer Jake Donovan, managing editor of boxingscene.com reported that Rubillar lost a controversial technical unanimous ten round decision to Puerto Rico?s David Quijano at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida.

Donovan said it was a ?foul-filled bout which ended on a head-butt as the ringside physician deemed Rubillar unfit to continue.?

Quijano initially celebrated believing he had won by a TKO but, according to Donovan he was ?forced to sweat out a decision that many believed should have gone the other way.? All three judges had Quijano the winner 96-94.

The early rounds saw little action but Quijano picked up the action in round three hurting Rubillar but failed to press the aggressiveness enabling Rubillar to come back in the fourth and impose his will, according to Donovan. While Quijano showed his readiness to trade blows he left himself wide open as Rubillar caught him with right hands consistently.

Rubillar launched a furious body attack in round seven although Donovan reported that several blows appeared to be below the beltline.

Quijano began to dig in and throw more shots in the eighth round. However, Donovan said ?his most effective shot was a head-butt that busted open Rubillar?s lips.?

With blood flowing Quijano instead of taking the fight to Rubillar backed off before another clash of heads in round ten which was far more severe with the ringside physician ruling that Rubillar was unfit to continue.

Donovan reported that the referee ?caused mass hysteria by immediately raising Quijano?s arm in victory, suggesting a TKO win but cooler heads prevailed as the ringside officials clarified that the bout would go to the scorecards.? The boxingscene.com managing editor noted that ?in Florida the final round of a bout is supposed to be scored whether or not it is completed. Rubillar appeared to get the better of the action as long as the 10th round lasted, but the judges either scored the blood or believed that Quijano boxed well enough early to build an insurmountable lead.?
