JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR SEEKS TO FOLLOW IN HIS FATHER?S FOOTSTEPS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Jun 2012 WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr seeks to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father, Julio Cesar Chavez, Mexico?s revered all-time boxing great. But despite his achievements, Chavez Jr is still referred to as the ?Son of the Legend? which sends a message that he still hasn?t reached the status of his illustrious father. Chavez Jr who is undefeated in 46 fights with 31 knockouts makes the third defense of his title against Irishman Andy Lee in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, Manila Time, in a fight to be telecast by ABS-CBN Studio 23 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Ch?vez Jr won the WBC title when he scored a majority btwelve round decision over Sebastian Zbik on June 4, 2011 He scored an impressive 5th round TKO over Peter Manfredo Jr on November 19, 2011 and scored a solid win over the rugged Marco Antonio Rubio at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas in February 4 , 2012 on the same cared where Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire won the WBO super bantamweight title defeating former champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr of Puerto Rico. The southpaw Lee has a record of 28-1, with 20 knockouts and now fights out of Detroit in the United States. The 28 year old is ranked No 3 by the WBC, No 1 by the WBO and No 2 by the WBA. He has been training at the famous Kronk Gym in Detroit, sparring against fighters such as Adonis Stevenson, Edwin Rodriguez and Brian Vera. His only loss was against Vera, who beat him in the seventh round in March 2008. A 2004 Olympian Lee is slightly taller than Ch?vez and is capable of fighting on the inside and outside and his southpaw style may give Chavez Jr some problems. Chavez Jr has struggled to make the weight in his recent fights and with strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza now out of Team Chavez his weight problems may surface once again.
