EXCITING SPORTS ACTION ON TV TODAY (SUNDAY) By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Mar 2012 Sunday promises to be action packed as far as sports is concerned. ABS-CBN will start off the sizzling Sunday with the telecast of the ?Pinoy Pride XII? fight card headlined by AJ ?Bazooka? Banal (26-1-1, 19 KO?s) in his WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title defense against Mexican warrior Raul Hidalgo (16-5, 12 KO?s) and OPBF flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes (32-6-2, 19 KO?s) in a ten round non-title bout against another Mexican Javier Franco (19-6-1, 10 KO?s). The fights will be telecast over ABS-CBN?S pre-eminent Channel 2 beginning at 10:15 a.m. and on Studio 23 at 330 P.M. later in the afternoon. Over on AKTV IBC 13, the developing sports channel on free television, the weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? will be on at 11:00 a.m. followed by the WBC welterweight title defense of veteran Erik ?El Terrible? Morales vs undefeated slugger Danny Garcia of Philadelphia on the popular ?Big Time Bakbakan? program at 12:00 noon. Morales failed to make the weight earlier today and declined to reduce 2 pounds in the process losing his title on the scales. Should Morales win however, the title will be declared vacant but should Garcia win, then the 24 year old will be crowned the new WBC welterweight champion. Morales was fined $50,000 from his $1 million purse for failing to make the weight. With football fever growing, following the recent achievements of the Philippine Azkals in finishing third in the tough AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal where prolific striker Phil Younghusband with 6 goals won the coveted ?Golden Boot? award, the delayed telecast of the English Premier League match between league contenders Manchester City and Stoke would be worth watching as the race for the league crown heats up between ManCity and Manchester United. The Manchester City-Stoke City game will be telecast at 2:00 p.m. That will be followed at 4:00 p.m. by two crucial PBA games between popular BMeg Llamados anchored by James Yap and the Powerade Tigers led by shooting star Gary David to be followed by an enthralling hardcourt battled between crowd favorites Barangay Ginebra and rugged Barako Bull. For those who may miss the initial telecast of the Morales-Garcia title fight there will be a prime time replay of ?Big Time Bakbakan? at 9:00 p.m. Also on tap is the 12th Annual Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde awards at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City where pound for pound king, congressman Manny Pacquiao will be the special guest and speaker. There will be two Philippine title fights to spice up the evening. The fights as well as highlights of the awards ceremony will be telecast on ?The Main Event? over succeeding Sundays on AKTV IBC 13,sponsored by Cobra, the Energy Drink, ?Tunay na Lakas.?
