SUGAR RAY LEONARD TELLS PACQUIAO AND MAYWEATHER TO GET IT ON By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Mar 2012 Sugar Ray Leonard, one of the greatest fighters of all-time has told pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr to get it on before its too late. Gavin Glicksman In an exclusive story in the British newspaper The Sun, reported that boxing?s biggest superstars appear no closer to agreeing on a a money-spinning showdown despite it being the fight every fan wants to see. Leonard told SunSport that boxing will be the biggest loser if the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout is not made soon. Leonard said "Speaking as a boxing fan, naturally I want to see that fight ? and I want to see it sooner rather than later. It won't be the same if they leave it much longer." Mayweather is scheduled to return to the ring on May 5 against Miguel Cotto who lost by a 12th round TKO to Pacquiao while the Filipino faces undefeated Timothy Bradley on June 9. Sugar Ray can understand why more people feel Mayweather will beat Pacquiao. He said "On the strength of Pacquiao's last fight against Marquez, you had people saying that Mayweather would definitely win should they meet. But you can't say that because it would be an entirely different fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather.? Leonard told SunSport "I think it's a great fight and from a psychological standpoint I'd give Mayweather the edge, although I wouldn't bet my house on it. That's what makes that fight so significant and intriguing, because either man can win. It depends on who brings their A-game the night of the fight." Pacquiao is currently regarded as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter ? an honorary title Mayweather believes should still belong to him. But Leonard is adamant that both fighters deserve to be ranked alongside the greatest names the sport has ever seen. He said: "Talent-wise they're up there ? and they both deserve to be. It's unfortunate, and it's not their fault, that in their era they dominate and there's no one else on the same level as them.? Leonard added, ?They're both very talented but I still won't count out Bradley against Pacquiao, or Cotto against Mayweather. Put it this way, there is a lot of talent out there and neither Pacquiao or Mayweather can afford to fall asleep at the wheel."
