Sanabria won the vacant title with a 5th round knockout over former OPBF champion, veteran Filipino Vinvin Rufino on December 3, 2011.
The lanky Mexican predicted ?it would be a very tough fight, that?s how it always has been with Philippine fighters.?
The WBC quoted Sanabria as predicting ?I will retain my title, I need to, the chance of fighting for the absolute belt is near.?

The silver lightweight chamoion added ?I definitely will get in a mentally and physically great shape for the bout, with nothing on my mind but to win an retain my title?.
Sanabria said he knows Bangoyan?s style and said ?He?s a very strong and a fast boxer. He?s got a tough chin which is why my team and I chose sparring partners with a similar style?.
