WBC PRESIDENT CONFIRMS FIGHTER SENT BY CORREA IS NOT THE CONTRACTED GENARO GARCIA By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 03 Mar 2012 World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has responded to a request by the Manila Standard to investigate the sending of a "fake" Genaro Garcia to the Philippines for what was supposed to be a career defining fight for Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, this evening. Sulaiman said "Victor and Hugo Correa are father and son; the father has a license from Tlaxcala and the son from Mexico City, but they seem not to have a good reputation and seem to be known for taking boxers to other places either with false approvals from Tlaxcala or other places.' Sulaiman said some fighters who belong to other managers are sent to fights without their (Manager's) knowledge or acceptance." He said "There is no record, nor anybody could tell me anything related to a Genaro Gutierrez Garc?a; the WBC has no record of such a name. The Mexican Boxing Federation found no one with that name and The Mexico City boxing commission has no record, either, of such a boxer" even as he stated that "In Mexico, there is a law that any Mexican boxer traveling to another state or country, must get his medical and commission approval to travel and fight in a state different from where the boxer resides. Sulaiman said he was informed that "No boxer has during this year requested for any approval to travel to the Philippines." Sulaiman clarified that Genaro "Poblanito" Garc?a- "poblanito" is his nickname, "has been a popular and well known boxer who has a record of 38-8 who is fighting now at the feather and super feather divisions and who fought here in Mexico two weeks ago and won by a TKO in the 6th round over Genaro Camargo. The WBC president said the real Garcia contracted for by ALA Promotions "is promoted by well known promoter Fausto Garc?a who I called for information and he said that he had yesterday heard that "someone using the name of Genaro Garc?a was fighting in the Philippines, with no more information." Sulaiman said "There is one more Genaro "Panterita" Garc?a,- "panterita" as nick name. He is licensed, but who fights as a lightweight and is a poor fighter with a record of 6-11 (you say 10-11 ), who did not visit the commission for approval and is not a boxer that anyone would look for anything serious."
