Cayo, Campbell and RJJ Headline February 21 Press Conference in Dominican Republican
PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Feb 2012
The Dominican Republic's own Victor "Mermelada" Cayo, former unified lightweight world champion Nate "The Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell and former pound-for-pound great Roy Jones Junior will be the star attractions when one of the most notable press conferences in the history of professional boxing in the Dominican Republic is held on Tuesday, February 21, in Santo Domingo.
The lavish conference will be held to discuss promoters Sampson Boxing and Manguita Promotions night of professional boxing in tropical paradise, scheduled for March 24 at the Palacio de Los Deportes that will be headlined by Cayo (27-2, 19 KOs) and Campbell (34-9-1, 25 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight battle.
Joining Roy Jones and the main event participants on the conference dais will be Dominican IBF Female Featherweight Champion Dahiana Santana (28-6, 12 KOs) and the opponent for her 10-round title defense, Miami, Florida's Stacey Reile (10-4, 4 KOs), as well as IBF Female Junior Featherweight Champion Ada Velez (20-3-3, 6 KOs) and her challenger, Santo Domingo native and once-beaten contender Katy Wilson Castillo (14-1, 9 KOs).
Also available to speak to the media and meet fans will be a pair of young knockout artists: junior welterweight Juan Carlos Abregu (6-0, 6 KOs) and featherweight Braulio "El Chavo" Rodriguez (6-0, 6 KOs).
"Because of the scope of this press event, we are still working on a suitable venue, but I assure you there is not an inch of Santo Domingo that is not breathtaking," said co-promoter Sampson Lewkowicz. "My partner Cesar Mercedes and I are bringing in all the fighters and superstar Roy Jones to meet fans and talk to the media. This entire event will be like nothing before it in the Dominican."
