Cordero PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Jun 2026 ![]() The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) reiterated its support for initiatives that will strengthen the country's international profile during the official launch of the "Roberto Durán: The Legacy" tournament, a project that will position Panama as the epicenter of Latin American boxing. The initiative, spearheaded by Brambri Durán Productions and Hands of Stone Entertainment, will bring together young amateur boxers from Panama and Mexico in an international competition that will include a docuseries filmed in the country. During his remarks, the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Julio Moltó, emphasized that this project represents a platform to promote Panamanian talent, strengthen creative industries, and enhance Panama's image worldwide. "This tournament goes far beyond sports. It integrates tourism, audiovisual production, investment, and opportunities for young people, generating a positive impact on various sectors of the economy," the minister stated. Moltó also highlighted that these types of initiatives contribute to consolidating Panama as a regional hub for major events and audiovisual productions. This sector generated investments of more than $12.5 million in 2025. The national tryouts for the historic Panama Durán Team will be open to amateur boxers interested in joining the team that will represent the country. The tryouts will be held on June 6 at the La Basita Sports Center in David, Chiriquí; on June 13 at the Sion Cohen Sports Center in Chitré, Herrera; and on June 27 at the Atheyna Bylon High-Performance Center in Panama City. From this process, the 20 official boxers who will advance to the Panama Durán National Tournament, scheduled for July 24 and 25 in Chitré, will be selected. The competitive season will begin on September 18 with the Panama vs. Mexico international semifinals at the Atheyna Bylon High-Performance Center. Later, on September 19, the Panama vs. Mexico International Professional Boxing Grand Final will be held at the Roberto Durán Arena. The event, which will combine amateur and professional bouts, aims to become a historic showcase for regional boxing. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Gabriel F. Cordero. |
