ERIK MORALES ? MARCOS MAIDANA TITLE FIGHT ON AKTV ?BIGTIME BAKBAKAN? ON SUNDAY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 10 Feb 2012 Erik ?El Terrible? Morales who was cited in the category ?Comeback of the Year? has shown that despite being 35 years old he hasn?t lost his skills which in fact enabled him to score a unanimous twelve round decision over Manny Pacquiao, the current pound for pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? in the first fight of an exciting trilogy in which Pacquiao won the next two, handsomely. After a layoff Morales returned to the ring and won the WBC super lightweight title beating Pablo Cesar Cano by a 10th round knockout which made Morales the first Mexican to become a four-time champion in four weight divisions. The exciting clash between the future Hall of Famer and Marcus Maidana of Argentina will be featured on the highly-rated weekly boxing show ?Bigtime Bakbakan? over AKTV IBC 13 on Sunday at 12:00 noon immediately after the long-running Viva Sports weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? at 11:00 a.m. featuring Part 1 of a special on the upcoming world title fight between Rodel Mayol and champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez of Mexico. In the Maidana fight, Morales tried his best to rekindle the spark that earned him the respect and admiration of friends and foes alike but in the end Maidana simply had a little too much for the Mexican. In a close fight Maidana squeezed out a majority twelve round decision at the MGMG Grand Garden Arena . Maidana eked out a 12-round majority decision Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden in what turned out to be a highly entertaining and competitive fight with judges Adalaide Byrd and Jerry Roth scoring the bout for Maidana 116-112, and Dick Houck turning in a 114-114 scorecard. With the win Maidana grabbed the vacant WBA interim junior welterweight title and denied Morales a chance to become the first Mexican fighter to win world titles in four weight classes. Maidana said "This was my toughest fight but I knew it would be, so I prepared for that. Morales is a strong fighter. He should continue to fight." Morales on the other hand said he was disappointed with the result. He said "I think it was a close fight, but to give him a clear win is ridiculous.? Morales added, "I think I won the fight. I thought my punches were crisper and better." Filipino fight fans have a chance to decide for themselves whether the judges were right in awarding Maidana a majority decision or whether Morales was correct in questioning the wide disparity in the scorecards.
