CABALLERO WINS, SOLIS BEATEN IN YOKOHAMA TITLE FIGHTS
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 02 Jan 2012

Lanky Panamanian Celestino Caballero (36-4, 23 KOs) has retained his WBA featherweight title by overwhelming the much shorter Japanese Satoshi ?Bazooka? Hosono (21-2, 15 KOs), 126, cracking the challenger with a variety of punches over twelve fiercely contested rounds in Yokohama, Saturday.
Two of the three judges had Caballero the winner 119-108 while the third judge scored it for the champion 116-111.
Hosono, the Japanese banger nicknamed ?Bazooka? tried his best to overcome an eight inch height and a 74 inch reach advantage but Caballero proved too skilful to let that happen.
Caballero who was trained by Jeff Mayweather, undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr?s uincle won the WBA featherweight title by outpointing Jonathan Barros in a rematch last October.
Undefeated WBA super-feather champ Takashi Uchiyama (18-0, 15 KOs) scored an impressive with an 11th round knockout of Mexican challenger and interim champion Jorge Solis (40-3-2-1NC, 29 KOs) in a highly-anticipated unification bout.
A confident Uchiyama who is making his fourth title defense had predicted ?I?m in tip-top shape, and will keep my belt.? He kept his promise in style as he dominated Solis who once fought pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao to whom he lost by an 8th round TKO.
Uchiyama won the title when he beat Juan Carlos Salgado by a twelfth round stoppage some two years ago.
After dominating Solis, Uchiyama finally dropped Solis with a looping left hook to end the bout at 0:19 of the eleventh and penultimate round to unify the super featherweight titles.
