EARLY UPDATES FROM NEW YORK: KNOCKOUTS RULE THE NIGHT AT THE GARDEN By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Dec 2011 New York - Manny Pacquiao's former sparring partner, Super Welterweight Glen Tapia 11-0 (5 KOs) scored a 2nd round KO of Mike Ruiz 15-6 (7 KOs) of Aguada, Puerto Rico. The Passaic, NJ native figured in a great exchange with the Puerto Rican in round number 2 with both fighters scoring telling blows. Tapia seemed to get the brunt out of the exchange as he emerged with a bloody nose from it. But like a shark smelling blood, Tapia attacked Ruiz with relentless punching knocking out Ruiz with 33 seconds left in the round. Tapia remains undefeated with the win. Local boy Sean Monaghan 10-0 (& KOs) of Long Beach, NY also scored a 2nd round KO of fellow Light Heavyweight Santos Martinez 2-2 (2 KOs) of Adrian, MI. Monaghan started the punishment early in the fight by pummeling the hapless with a series of right hands. Martinez survived the round by holding on to Monaghan but was not unable to do it in the succeeding round as Martinez gets pummeled again. Monaghan dropped Martinez with his right and there was no getting up from that for Martinez. The time of the stoppage was 2:56 of the round. Monaghan also remains undefeated scoring his 11th with 8 of it coming via KO's. Notre Dame Alum Mike Lee 7-0 (4 KOs) also scored a KO tonight here at the Madison Square Garden. Lee scored a vicious knockout via a right hook that buckled the knees of Allen Medina 9-19-1 (1 KO) OF Ft. Lupton, CO. Lee setup his right hook with a left straight to the chin that distracted Medina. It was one that he did not expect as Lee's hurting punches were all courtesy of a strong left hook from the Chicago born boxer. Lee's hooks were so strong that whenever Medina gets hit by it, he is pushed back against his will. Medina's end came at the 55 second of the 4th round of the Light Heavyweight match.
