Victorious ALA Boys Thank Handlers, Fans for Successful Stints Abroad By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 Jun 2006 Cebu City - The victorious fighters of the famed ALA Boxing Club of Cebu - Rey Bautista, Z Gorres, Czar Amonsot and Along Denoy - took turns in thanking their handlers and fans for their recent successful fights in the United States when they faced the Cebu media last night at the Cebu Grand Convention Center in this city. First to speak was undefeated Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista, who has slowly caught the attention of the mainstream boxing media for his electrifying victories where in his last fight he demolished Nicaraguan veteran Roberto Bonilla inside three rounds in the undercard of the Barrera-Juarez fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on May 20. The Fab Four: Bautista, Gorres, Amonsot and Denoy. Next to give thanks was Z Gorres, who sent Pedro Rincon Miranda of Columbia to the canvas 3 times in route to shutout unanimous decision victory at Home Depot Center in the Carson, California last May 27. Czar Amonsot spoke next for his victory against Jose Reyes of Puerto Rico where Amonsot came back from a first round knockdown to win via a clear unanimous decision. The fight was the main event of the Guilty Fight Night card held at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on May 12 organized by Guilty Boxing Promotions. Edito "ALA" Villamor. Last to take the mike was the crowd-shy Along Denoy. Denoy fought in the same May 12 card with Amonsot and was ahead on judges' scoredcards when the fight was stopped and declared a draw in the 4th round after an accidental headbutt. Nevertheless, because of his gutsy showing, Denoy earned the respect and admiration of the crowd. Not in the presscon was the newly crowned PABA welter champ Dondon Sultan, who is currently resting in his home in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte after orchestrating a stirring 1st-round knockout upset win over the Kostya Tszyu-managed formerly undefeated Russian fighter Anton Solopov in Surgut, Russia. Sammy Gello-ani. The amiable Sammy Gello-ani, handling the promotional chores of ALA Boxing Club, who had accompanied the ALA boys to the U.S., revealed that big plans were afoot for their fighters including possible title fights in the immediate future for Bautista and Gorres, who are under promotional contracts with Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. Sultan, Amonsot, Denoy and others are also in the mix, according to Gello-ani. Tabilaran City mayor Dan Neri Lim. Gello-ani, who only arrived back to the country yesterday together with Gorres and ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor, told the gathered media that their wards next fights will be announced in time after he has conferred with ALA chief architect Antonio L. Aldeguer and Tagbilaran city mayor Dan Neri Lim, who now officially act as the group's legal consultant. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Dong Secuya. |
