Baby Faced Destroyer Stops Foe In Round 1 PhilBoxing.com Sat, 22 Oct 2011 Ronnie Apilado. Upcoming Philippine junior featherweight contender Ronnie "Baby Faced Destroyer" Apilado continued his winning streak Sunday when he stopped former amateur standout Rex Granade in the first round of their 10-round fight at the Midsayap Municipal Gymnasium in Midsayap, North Cotabato. Apilado, 22, a Sunday high school student and considered as one of the young boxing stars from the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato, immediately brought the fight to the older Granada as the round started and caught the Gen. Santos City fighter with a tremendous body and head combination sending him to the canvas for a count of eight. As Granada stood up to resume the fight, Apilado pinned him in his own corner and unleashed a series of head punches that prompted referee Felizardo Resma to stop the fight. It was Apilado's 16th win in 17 fights, 10 by knockout, and his 11th straight victory after dropping a 4-round fight by majority decision three years ago. Currently rated No. 12 junior featherweight in the Philippines, the win over Granada could line up the young fighter from Midsayap for a bigger fight scheduled to be held also in his hometown in the last week of November. In a fight card staged by the partnership between Braveheart Boxing Club of former North Cotabato Governor Manny Pinol and Hiwaii Sports of Howard Inafuku of Hawaii, former World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Flyweight champion Edrin "The Sting" Dapudong dusted off the rust from three months of inactivity by scoring an easy 10-round decision over Amerro Ricablanca. Another outstanding featherweight, 23-year-old Rey "The Bull" Juntilla stopped Robert Liparanon in the 4th of a 10-round bout while a new Braveheart Boxing Club recruit, journeyman Ryan Rey Ponteras stopped John Rey Lauza by knockout in the 2nd round to improve his record to 9 wins, 8 losses and 4 KOs. In a 6-round bout in the junior bantamweight division, Joemer Lumacad won over Ruben Baldos by unanimous decision while Arnold Garde scored his second win as a professional fighter by stopping Reymart Godito by knockout in the 4th round. |
