If you don't like Mayweather - Ortiz, there is another fight to watch tonight minus the $70 PPV fee and the hype By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 18 Sep 2011 With one of the year's mega fight featuring Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz hours away from happening, another fighter also looks forward on a night of his own. Cebu City and San Diego California's native son Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta 22-0-1 is headlining a Top Rank promoted card in Arizona tonight, right in the smack of the Mayweather- Ortiz festivities. He won't be facing a hyped up Victor Ortiz but a tough cookie in Manuel Perez 16-6-1. This one won't be on the fight capital of the world in Las Vegas, Nevada but is not too far from it either. It is located less than 200 miles from Sin City in the town of Parker, Arizona by the Colorado River. It won't be on the acknowledged official fight arena of Las Vegas, the 16,000 seat MGM Grand Arena but on an amphitheater set up to seat 2000 boxing fans at the BlueWater Resort & Casino located at the banks of the Colorado River. It won't cost you $28,749 for a choice ringside seat from Stub Hub or $1250 for a lower level seat from Ticketmaster. No, all it'll cost you is $100 for a ringside seat for this fight, even cheaper than the lowest priced seat of $150 in the very top and corner of the MGM Grand. And if you want to be a high roller and want to be generous to seven of your closest family and friends, that'll only cost you $2000 in one of your credit cards. That includes special seating on stage for 8; VIP parking and food and beverages for the night. Plus that also gets you VIP access to the weigh in held yesterday even if you are not a member of the press or a promoter or a groupie of one of the fighters. If you decide to stay at home though and watch it over your boob tube by yourself or your family and friends. It won't set you back $69.99 for an HD televised viewing or $59.99 over regular cable in your cable bill next month. The fight dubbed as "Battle at Bluewater II" will be telecast live on Fox Sports Network (FSN) channels at 10 pm EST for?. zero dollars. And if you are in the Philippines, you don't need to go through the massive amount of TV ads that accompany mega fights like the Mayweather - Ortiz event entitled as "STARPOWER." ABS - CBN will carry the fight with fewer commercials compared to a big publicized fight that'll cost more to bring to the Filipino audience. And if you hate commercials period or is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) somewhere in the world wanting to be entertained for a few hours, then Toprank.com is what you type in the search bar of your computers, laptops and tablets to gain access to the fight via the web. Of course, Gesta is no Floyd Mayweather Jr. Yes his opponent is no Victor Ortiz. And yes this is no mega fight. But this, like the much promoted "STARPOWER" is at the end of the day, simply a boxing fight. The rules aren't different, its two men squaring off to gain victory over another. Take away all the hype and we end with a ring, a referee and two modern gladiators. So if you despise Mayweather Jr. and his antics in and out of the ring .If you find his unapologetic tirades against Manny Pacquiao and the Filipino and Asian race disgusting. If you are tired of him throwing accusations against Manny Pacquiao at every chance he can. If you are taken back by the $70 plus tax price of the pay per view event that you can watch free the week after anyway. If a $28,749 seat with the stars or a $1,250 general public lower level seats are too much for you in this recession afflicted economy of ours. And all you like is to be entertained by a good fight between two gladiators of the modern times for a few hours of your Saturday night or Sunday morning, depending on where in the world you might be. Then you have another choice. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Rich Mazon . |
